Ecclestone receives 80th anniversay gift, shows the finger Posted: 28 Oct 2010 01:52 PM PDT We’re not sure whether Bernie Ecclestone, the F1 boss, really appreciated the prank played on him be Red Bull, what we know for sure is that it was fun. For Bernie’s 80th anniversary, Sebastian Vettel handled him a gift from Red Bull, which was a zimmer frame with a Red Bull front wing and an F1 steering wheel with a few “special” buttons like “Viagra”, “Nurse” or “Pasquale” (reference to Ecclestone’s assistant, Pasquale Lattuneddu. According to those that witnessed when Bernie received the gift, he appreciated the joke and took the gift with humor and, of course, gave the finger to Red Bull. Post published on Rpmgo.com |
Cadillac planning BMW 3-Series and Mercedes C-Class competitor Posted: 28 Oct 2010 01:44 PM PDT According to Automotive News, GM is very ambitious with its future plans. In a telephone conversation with Cadillac spokesman Nick Twork, they were told Cadillac is currently planning a model positioned below the CTS which will be a direct competitor to BMW’s 3-Series and Mercedes’ C-Class. In order to be successful with the model, Cadillac plans on investin $190 million in the Lansing Grand River assembly plant which will produce the model. No details were released on the model’s name or when production will start. “We will have a car positioned below the CTS in our lineup to compete with the BMW 3-Series and Mercedes Benz C-Class” Mr. Twork said. These statements are also backed by a recent GM press release, where the company’s CEO Dan Akerson said that “America’s fastest-growing luxury brand this year is about to get even more competitive with the addition of an all-new small luxury car [..] This investment demonstrates GM’s commitment to Cadillac and to a strong U.S. manufacturing base.” [Source: Automotive News] Post published on Rpmgo.com |
Fiat unhappy with Italian workers’ productivity Posted: 28 Oct 2010 01:34 PM PDT Sergio Marchionne, the CEO of Fiat has said in a recent statement that he is very unhappy with Italian workers’ efficiency and that, given the current conditions, Fiat would be better if it moved all its production outside Italy. “Not a single euro of (Fiat’s) planned 2-billion-euro profit margin comes from Italy,” the outspoken Marchionne said in a rare TV appearance on Italian show “Che tempo che fa [..] Fiat would do more if it took Italy out from its results. We cannot continue to manage operations at a loss forever,” he added. Marchionne also added that Fiat’s Polish plant’s productivity cannot be matched by all five Italian car factories and he said Fiat is willing to invest 20 billion euros ($27.83 billion) in Italy if it gets more labor flexibility. Marchionne already convinced the majority of workers at the Pomigliano D’Arco plant to introduce some landmark changes to the national labor contract, though the key union, Fiom, is fighting agains it. Marchionne also said that Fiat will close down Sicily’s Termini Imerese plant. [Source: Reuters] Post published on Rpmgo.com |

1964 Aston Martin DB5 used in James Bond movies sells for $4.6 million Posted: 28 Oct 2010 07:00 AM PDT Auction company RM Auctions announced that a 1964 Aston Martin DB5 used in early James Bond movies sold yesterday for $4.6 million. A similar car was sold 5 years ago, but unlike that one, which was used only for promotional purposes, the one sold yesterday was actually used and driven by Sean Connery in Goldfinger and Thunderball movies. Even though it has such history, a car like this wouldn’t sell for that much, but this one is equipped with guns that poke out through the taillights, the license plate rotates to show different plates and it also features a removable roof panel in case the passenger wants to use the ejector seat (no idea why any normal dude would want to do that). The car was bought in 1969 by Jerry Lee, a Philadelphia radio executive who said he’s not very pleased with the amount of money paid for the car, as he was expecting as much as $10 million. All the money will go to the Jerry Lee foundation, an organization fighting against poverty. [Source: CNN Money / eGMCarTech] Post published on Rpmgo.com |
