2012 Ariel Atom Mugen Revealed Posted: 17 Jan 2011 01:16 AM PST If you thought that the Atom V8 500 was the most powerful and fast Ariel available, you are wrong as the company just finished preparing a limited edition Atom Mugen which made its debut at this year's UK Autosport Show. This limited edition was made in order to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the Atom and only 10 units will be produced. Each of these cars will come with different liveries and will have numbered plates signed by Ariel and Mugen. The latter is known for offering many tuning packages for Honda cars. Aside from the regular features that you find in the standard Atom, the Mugen edition comes with four pot lightweight calipers as well as ventilated discs for both the front and rear wheels. Inside, the Mugen model will benefit from a multi-functional LCD screen installed in front of the Atom's driver and will display all the necessary and relevant info, including lap times and gearshift indicators. As far as the engine is concerned, the 2012 Ariel Atom Mugen will feature the unit that equips the Honda Civic Type R, which is a naturally-aspirated 2.0-liter K20Z Type R, but tuned by Mugen in order to output 270 hp @ 8,600 rpm. In comparison to the standard Atom, the Mugen offers a 25 hp increase. With this engine and a curb weight of less than 640 kg, the car will be able to reach 60 mph in 2.9 seconds, onto a top speed of about 150 mph. We mentioned in the beginning of the article that only 10 units will be produced, but we have to warn you that one was already sold. For those of you interested in the 2012 Ariel Atom Mugen, the price is $78,700. If you are curious about the Atom's main competitor, it is the KTM X-Bow, although the cars look very different. Both of them have very similar performance specifications and the KTM X-Bow is fitted with a 240 hp Audi-based 2.0-liter TFSI DOHC engine, offering just about the same performance figures as the Atom Mugen. Audi A6 Wins EyesOn Design Award Posted: 17 Jan 2011 12:52 AM PST The new generation of the Audi A6 won the EyesOn Design Award at the 2011 Detroit Auto Show. Thanks to its elegant yet sporty looks emphasized by the sweeping roofline, long engine hood and the prominent lines, the A6 allowed Audi to win its fourth award in the last three years. In addition, the car won the "Best Production Vehicle" award at Detroit, increasing Audi's position as one of the most inspired automakers when it comes down to design. Audi is a regular customer of this award as in 2009 the German automaker won the "Best Production Car Design" award with its beautiful R8 V10 car and the "Best Concept Vehicle" for the Sportback Concept which later on stood as a reference for the A7 Sportback production model. Last year at the 2010 NAIA, the automaker won the title for the "Best Production Car Design" with its A8 luxury sedan. The new Audi A6 will go on sale in the United States this fall as a 2012 model. The car will feature a body made out of aluminum and high-tech steels, making it not only light, but also safe and stiff. For more information about the 2012 A6, read here. Posted: 17 Jan 2011 12:40 AM PST If you live in West Midlands, UK, don't try to outrun the police on the highway as they are driving this 2011 Lotus Evora, a car presented at the Autosport International Show and donated by the British automaker to the United Kingdom police force. For those of you with criminal intentions you should know that this Lotus Evora packs 280 hp under its beautiful bonnet and the car will stuck to your rear view mirror like the ones in the Need For Speed Hot Pursuit video game. This Lotus Evora police car will be given a 2-week trial run on a long stretch along the highway that covers approximately 450 miles, along with a couple of important routes, like the M2, M5 and M6 motorways. From the outside, this 2011 Lotus Evora looks just about the same as the standard production model, except of course for a few obvious additions. The car now features a very cool looking police livery and packs the standard and obligatory police lights on the roof, grille and a modified interior cockpit. Regarding the cabin, there aren't any information about what changes this car has but most likely it will have a heavy dose of law-enforcement paraphernalia, like an on-board computer, a radar gun and a couple of gun holsters. This beautiful Lotus Evora police car is probably the fastest law enforcement car in the entire United Kingdom. Packing a powerful 3.5-liter V6 unit that churns 280 hp, it has a top speed of 168 mph. The Evora needs less than five seconds to reach 60 mph. The engine under the hood is the exact same one that you will find in the standard version of the car. Although it is not one of the most intimidating cars in the world, it definitely makes up for in terms of raw power and speed, something very rare for a UK police car. Post published on Rpmgo.com |
Posted: 17 Jan 2011 12:23 AM PST Last week, Caterham Cars released its very first sports prototype racer – the Caterham Lola SP/300R, after more than five decades of motorsport history. The vehicle was manufactured using the Lola's Computational Fluid Dynamics technology, on an aluminum tubular chassis. The car sports a longitudinally mid-mounted power unit architecture that is coupled to a stress-bearing rear transaxle. In order to provide better aerodynamics, the car has a forward splitter as well as a large rear wing that are coupled with the flat underbody for maximizing the ground effects. Under the hood of this prototype racer is a 300 hp Ford 2.0-liter Duratec engine. Although 300 hp might not sound very impressive taking into consideration that this is a track car, combine this power with a curb weight of only 600kg and you got yourself a pretty fast machine, capable of offering a 500 hp-per-tone power-to-weight-ratio. What is even more impressive than that is the time needed to reach 60 mph, only 2, 5 seconds, which is exactly as the Bugatti Veyron. The car's top speed is around the 170 mph mark. The car is fitted with a full race suspension, offering front and rear dual wishbones with adjustable ride height and pushrod dampers. The rear suspension architecture is based on the one used for the Lola Formula 3 and World Junior cars. The car rolls on 13-inch race wheels (ATS Speedline or OZ) covered by specially developed Cooper Avon Tyres. The base price for the Caterham Lola SP/300 R is 60,000 pounds and only 25 units will be made annually. Click here to view the embedded video. Post published on Rpmgo.com |
Special – Moto Guzzi V8 Motorcycle Posted: 17 Jan 2011 12:06 AM PST The title is not wrong; this Moto Guzzi V8 motorcycle is actually equipped with a V8 engine. The moto comes from an age when the technological developments were left aside in favor of raw power and the Guzzi is the ultimate proof. Equipped with a 500cc V8 racing power unit that has eight carburetors, the motorcycle produces 80 hp, pretty impressive for the mid-50s period. What is even more impressive is the top speed of 180 mph (288 km/h) and the possibility to rev up the engine to 12,500 rpm. For a first time in a motorcycle, the aerodynamics of the Moto Guzzi V8 was entirely developed in a wind tunnel. The Guzzi was developed by Giulano Carcano, a multi-cylinder racer in the 50s. Not one of the best looking motorcycles but for that period it was shockingly powerful and blazing fast. The development of the bike was canceled in 1957 when Moto Guzzi joined other several manufacturers pulling out of Grand Prix racing. This special motorcycle will be exhibited these days at Race Retro and Giuseppe Todoro, the bike's owner will offer the chance to stretch the Guzzi's legs during the show's 2011 Fire Up Paddock, a premiere for this year. Making Of – Red Bull Project X2010 Posted: 16 Jan 2011 11:52 PM PST Click here to view the embedded video. Originally created only for the highly-acclaimed PS3-exclusive Gran Turismo 5 video game, Red Bull decided to do a real version of the X2010 vehicle, also known as X1 prototype. The design of this car was made by Adrian Newey, Red Bull's Chief Technical Officer and the vehicle was built by Industrial Design Consultancy, the result is a pretty cool looking car. Although this mock up does not have a powertrain, the Gran Turismo 5 version of the X2010 is equipped with a 3.0-liter V6 unit that churns an impressive number of 1479 ponies (1103 kW / 1500 PS) and a whopping 527 lb-ft (714 Nm) of torque. This tremendous power combined with the fan installed in the floor that is capable of creating a suction effect with massive downforce allows this futuristic vehicle to reach 60 mph in 1.4 seconds, 200 mph in 6.1 seconds, onto an impressive to speed of 450 km/h. The lateral acceleration of the GT5-based X2010 can reach 8.75 G, which is at the limit of what our bodies can withstand. I for one am really curious to see if the car will be developed even further by adding an engine. Although it will certainly not be that 1479 hp unit, let's hope that the engineers at Red Bull will install something just as great as the looks of this car. Post published on Rpmgo.com |

The guy behind the camera videotapes two young skateboards doing their tricks and he decides to point the camera to the other side of the road where a man driving a Mercedes C-Class convertible starts blowing his horn to what seems to be a sleeping old woman. After a couple of horns, the woman eventually wakes up and starts crossing the road very slowly (and annoyingly). The man is still honking so the old lady decides to hit the guy's car when the airbag pops us. Click here to view the embedded video. I've seen this video a few years ago and I just remembered it. First of all, I've got to admit that she is very ambitious. From this video you can almost actually feel how frustrated this Italian woman driver is. Every time I see this video I am surprised that she didn't see that her car wasn't small enough to fit in that place but she was still trying, over and over again. By the way, what car is that? Here is a classic case of stupidity. This woman is trying to fill her BMW 3-Series with the gas on the wrong side of the car. I can understand parking the car in the wrong place, but to try to fill it is just plain dumb. Click here to view the embedded video. Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps located in Belgium is one of the most popular in the world, the home of many racing events, ranging from touring car competitions and ending with the most important one – Formula One. If you go on the course using a production car, you might feel that you are Michael Schumacher and that there is nobody else faster than you. The video here is the living proof that you are wrong. Although this isn't something new to most of us, it is very interesting to see how much faster is a Formula One car around a series of highs-speed turns. This video was made by someone at VWVortex's Car Lounge who decided to do an overlay of two videos of the same corner, and although these two don't line up as you might have hoped, you get the idea. For those of you that didn't consider Formula One the mother of all racing competitions out there, this should convince you as you can easily see that these cars are blazing fast in comparison to any other vehicle out there, no wonder teams invest millions and millions of dollars for every drop of performance, the result is what you see in this video. |
Land Rover Launches Defender X-Tech Edition Posted: 16 Jan 2011 11:01 PM PST If you live in North America and want to get one of these babies, you can't as Land Rover decided to launch the X-Tech Edition of the Defender in Belgium, home of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization. NATO was created as a powerful united front against the Communist bloc, and it still is one of the most important alliances of nations in the entire world. Land Rover considered that Belgium would be the right location for unveiling a paramilitary-type vehicle. The X-tech version of the Land Rover Defender is just as tough as the Jeep or Hummer and it is without any doubt one of the most rock-solid rock-crawlers ever made. The car is available in either a silver 3-door configuration, dubbed Defender 90 or in an olive green 5-door version, named Defender 110, with a longer wheelbase. Both of them come with black wheel arches, roof as well as new "saw-tooth" alloy rims. The interior of the Land Rover Defender X-Tech Edition is available in ebony and the seats have leather side bolsters. The car is powered by a 2.4-litre common-rail diesel engine and offers 360 Nm of torque. Although it doesn't offer that many things in comparison with the standard version, the X-Tech has enough goodies for a more rugged appearance. Sales will begin this March at a starting price of 24,995 pounds. Post published on Rpmgo.com |

Regardless of what you think about drifting, it is fun to watch the Mazda RX7 being piloted on full opposite lock. The question is: can you do the same thing with a motorcycle? The answer is simple: YES – according to Nick Brocha, a rider for Icon Motorsports. The team is popular for providing gear for fanatics of two-wheel transportation, but at the same time they sponsor a couple of skilled bikers. One of those drivers is Nick Brocha who in this video pits his customized Kawasaki ZX10 against Jim Guthrie, the man behind the wheel of this Mazda RX-7, a drift machine equipped with a Corvette engine. Add to all this a couple of cameras including one that is attached to an R/C car, a nice location for the battle and you've got all the necessary ingredients for an entertaining video, like the ones made in Forza 3, but this time only with cars. I must say that I'm not a big fan of motorcycles but every time I see someone doing something like this with a motorcycle, I have to admit that they can be very cool, if driven by someone with a lot of experience, like Nick Brocha.
