BMW 1-Series M Coupe

After a rather unrelenting teaser campaign, the German automaker BMW has finally unveiled the 1-Series M Coupe. The model was created in order to become the spiritual successor of the original BMW M3. The car comes with a very aggressive front bumper, Bi-Xenon headlights that have LED eyebrows, 19-inch lightweight rims and flared wheel arches. With this model, BMW will offer only three color options: Valencia Orange Metallic (photo), Alpine White and Black Sapphire Metallic.

Inside the car you will find sports seats, an Alcantara trim and Boston leather upholstery. Other features that are worth mentioning include the sport steering wheel, the updated instrument cluster and the orange contrast stitching. As optional features, BMW can offer a generous 8.8-inch display for the navigation system, a powerful Harman Kardon audio system and dual-zone automatic climate control as well as other features.

The engine that powers the 1-Series M Coupe is a 3.0-liter twin-turbo 6-cylinder that is capable of producing 335 hp (250 kW / 340 PS) and a massive 369 lb-ft (500 Nm) of torque. The engine is linked exclusively to a 6-speed manual gearbox which allows the 3, 295 lb (1, 495 kg) car to do 0-100 km/h in 4.9 seconds. The car needs only 17.3 seconds for the 0-200 km/h sprint and it has an electronically-limited   top speed of 250 km/h. The fuel average consumption is 24.5 mpg (9.6 L/100 km) while the CO2 emissions are 224 g/km.

In order to guarantee that the 1-Series M Coupe handles like any other BMW car, the German engineers fitted the car with an aluminum-intensive suspension that uses a double pivot front axle and a 5-link rear. In addition to this, the car is equipped with an intelligent M differential which "responds to differences in rotational speeds in the right and left rear wheel, redirecting drive torque within a fraction of a second."

The car will receive its official debut at the North American International Auto Show and it will be available for sale in Germany in May 2011 for a basic price of €50,500, including VAT.
